We hope you all had your share of barbeques and summer fun over the long weekend. Paul and I made the best of our nice, leisurely Saturday to try to make some sense out of all the baby gear that is out there. While Jonathan was discovering exactly how hilly this city can be when you're on a bicycle (VERY), we were up to our eyeballs in strollers.
Travel systems, joggers, basic frames, umbrella strollers, OH MY! How on Earth is anyone supposed to make a decision with all the choices out there?!? And what's the deal with Bugaboo? Why are they $900 for a stroller? Are we going to be bad parents if we don't buy this trendy stroller? Aaakkkkkk! Fortunately we were given the inside scoop by one of my co-workers who sent us to this fabulous little store in San Bruno, Lullaby Lane.
Upon entering, this place is pretty overwhelming - a whole storefront dedicated to strollers alone! To our right, a stroller that wouldn't look out of place in some futuristic sci-fi movie. To our left, the celebrity friendly Bugaboo is giving us that come hither look. There were literally strollers everywhere we looked! And dotted amongst this vast sea of baby mobility devices were women who looked like they just swallowed basket balls (the procrastinators), those like me who are at that borderline "fat or pregnant?" stage (the over achievers), and the guys with that overwhelmed look of utter confusion (the husbands).
Paul and I took a lap, kicked some tires, and looked at each other at a complete loss for where to begin. Luckily, the fantastic staff at Lullaby Lane was quick to assist us and give us a lesson in Strollers 101. For the next hour we learned why the Maclaren XLR is like the Cadillac of strollers, why two non-joggers might want a Jogger stroller, and that a universal frame will only last you as long as your little one still fits in an infant car seat (about 6 months). We even dared to venture to the land of Bugaboo an received a full demonstration of what this $900 piece of equipment has to offer. We were not $500 more impressed than we were by the others. In the end, we think we've found our stroller. Functional, versatile, yet still on the trendy side, we've opted to go with a spicy little Italian number - the Peg Perego Pliko P3. While we still haven't come to an agreement as to the color, at least we can almost check this one item off our list (more on our list a little later). Paul has dubbed this fancy ride the "Bippity Boppity" (that's a Family Guy reference for those of you who are not familiar)
Now onto this list. Are you aware of how much stuff you need to prepare for the arrival of the baby?!?! Its insane! 360 diapers for the first month alone?!?! Are you SERIOUS? A crib, ok that's a given, but a bassinet and play yard too? And what exactly is a lap pad used for anyway? In an effort to make sense of all that is out there and figure out what exactly it is that we will need to buy and register for, we reached out to our old friend Excel and his handy spreadsheet capabilities. To those of you without kids yet, we'll gladly share this monster of a sheet with you down the road.
THE GOOD STUFF
Now that you've let me vent about the joys of preparing for baby, here is an update on just how the little one is doing. In the next few weeks we can expect 'lil Exploseph to double in weight and add inches to their length. His or her fingernails and toenails are now fully formed, and internally their urinary tract and bladder are functioning, emptying about once every hour (eww). We're just a few short weeks away from our next sonogram (yay! picture time!) where hopefully the little one will cooperate and give us a good view of their girl parts or boy parts! Be sure to cast your vote in the poll before the 21st.
In other exciting news, mamma has begun to feel 'lil Exploseph moving around. It took a few times to figure out what were gas bubbles and what was baby movements, but now I think we have it figured out! Baby likes to hang out on mom's left side and gets quite antsy and wiggly when she tries to lay on her right side. We've also discovered that the little one does not like to stay put for the heart doppler. At our last visit to Dr. Chen, she found the heartbeat right away, only to have baby wiggle away. They kept up this game of tag for a few minutes before the Dr. got tired of playing. We can't wait until the 21st so that we can have some real pictures to post!

Welcome to the world of parenting - and it only gets better. So good to talk to you yesterday. Don't let the "list" get to you. All you really need is a dresser drawer and diapers!! Can't wait for the next appointment. Love, mamajoe
